In the previous blog you were introduced to the bacon slicer, the famous Sleegers stacker and underleaver. The machines that ensure that a number of slices are neatly stacked next to each other or in rows. And that paper or foil is placed underneath. When slicing fresh products, such as bacon, not all the slices are the same. That's why it's important to add an intermediate step to the process.
Stable quality control
Camera technology is used to inspect the bacon slices. We see whether the slice is okay or not. We pay attention to shape, size, breakage, fat and blood residues. If a slice is not in a proper condition, it is removed from the production process. This means that the constant flow of bacon slices is occasionally interrupted. Suppose 8 slices have to be put on a piece of paper every time. Then you have to figure out a way to overcome those gaps in the supply. That was another interesting challenge for the R&D team. A challenge that resulted in a reliable and efficient machine.
The next blog will be about cutting frozen blocks of bacon into pieces.
